Overall, car ownership in Britain increased in 1971 onwards. Particular, the figure of families with two cars inclined significantly, while households with without car dramatic decreased.

In 1971, home without car was the highest proportion of Britain population which stood at almost 50 percent, whereas citizens with three or more cars only acquired around two percent. However, residents with one car accounted for approximately 45 percent of Britain population, and household with two cars amounted to about eight percent.

On the other hand, the trend was changed in 2007 which families who had two cars become common, and the proportion rose to about 27 percent. But, the percentage of no car ownership category fall to around 23 percent in 2007. Furthermore, one car type similar with three or more cars was almost stable in 36-years period.
