The charts provide information on the average number of hours per week spent by people from different age groups and illustrate the main reasons responsible for the popularity of the internet.
Overall, the top three purposes dominates the internet's usage, controlling nearly three-fourths of the internet with the younger generation of teenagers and young adults, the most prevalent user.
The internet has its maximum influence on the people from the young age groups -15 to 17 and 18 to 24 years, who are spending nearly 17 and 16.5 hours per week, respectively. Next to them are people from the age groups of 25-34 and 35-44 years who are using the internet for approximately 9 to 11 hours a week. Finally, internet usage among people beyond 45 years old and senior citizens of 65+ is slightly more than one-third of the average time spent by the younger generation on the internet.
Usually, 34 per cent of people utilize their internet time for entertainment purpose. The next highest search is for information on shopping or social services with a split of 22 per cent and 18 per cent respectively. On the other hand, only a quarter of people spend equal time on education and other services.
