In terms of transport through road, around 70 millions tonnes of commodities were transported in 1974 . It gradually increased with minor decline in between to reach a high of just below hundred million tonnes in 2002.
Waterways amounted to below 40 millions tons of goods carriage at the start, after which it slightly increased to equal railway in 1978 at 40 millions tons. Following this, it showed persistent growth to become the second major contributor by transporting just below 70 millions tonnes of goods in 2002. Similar trend was followed by pipeline starting at around 5 to reach above 20 million tonnes in the final year.
Approximately 40 million tonnes of goods was carried by Railways in the first and last year, but its value fluctuated to remain below 40 millions tonnes during the period given.
