The diagram shows rainwater is collected for the use of drinking water in an Australian town.

The diagram illustrates the method by which an Australian town harvests water from rain for the purpose of drinking.

Overall, there are five steps involved in this process which includes collection, filtration, storage, water treatment and distribution.

In the first step, rainwater falling on the slanting roof top of each house enters a gutter and flows to reach an underground drain through separate drainage pipes of each house. This drained water from rain then passes through a water filtration unit, which clears it of particulate impurities in the second step. Once the water has been filtered, it is stored in a storage tank in the following step.

Stored water is then carried to the water treatment tank through a pipe connecting both the tanks. After which, the water is treated with chemicals to render it safe for drinking. Finally, after the water is made potable, it is distributed back to all the houses in the same town by a separate supply pipeline, where people can use it for daily consumption.
