Essay topics:

The bar chart below shows the total number of minutes (in billions) of telephone calls in Australia, divided into three categories, from 2001- 2008.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar graph compares the total length of minutes of calls made in terms of three different types in Australia for a period of 7 years.

It is clear that by far the most people made their calls through local phones over the period shown. Using mobile phones was by far the least popular by Australian, but the figure saw a dramatic increase over the same period.

In 2001, 72 billion minutes were made through local calls, which was almost twice as long as the figure for national and international calls (38 billion minutes). By contrast, merely 2 billion minutes were spent by Australian in the same year.

The figure for local calls increased to a peak of 90 billion minutes in 2005, but fell to 72 billion minutes in 2008, which was the same figure in 2001. From 2001 to 2008, the number of minutes for national and international phone calls saw an upward trend, reaching its peak of 61 billion. Similarly, calls on mobile phones rose substantially by 44 billion minutes by 2008.
