The bar chart illustrates the patterns of British families’ budget distribution on domestic and overseas travel across different age groups in a single year.
Overall, households’ travel budgets were not evenly distributed depending on the age, with those aged 50-64 spending most on national tourism and those who are between 65 and 74 on international. It is also noticeable that regardless of the age, families spent more on tourism in the UK than abroad.
As for local tourism, young people spent nearly 500 pounds, compared to approximately 730 expended by 30-49-year-olds. An outlier was an age range between 50 and 64, who allocated as much as 750 pounds (the highest amount in the UK). However, senior age citizens’ travel costs were significantly less, especially with 75 and older people spending the least, at about 200 pounds.
By contrast, international travel expenditure was the greatest with those aged 65-74 (over 200 pounds). The British before 30 had the modest budget for travelling overseas (barely more than 50 pounds). The rest age brackets had similar travel costs, holding at 150 and 200 pounds.
