The given chart compares the changes in terms of three types of crime, namely burglary, car theft, and robbery, in Newport city center between 2003 and 2012.
Overall, it can be seen that the number of people who committed the burglary crime had a tendency to decline significantly from 2003-2012. In contrast, the crime rates related to car theft and robbery stayed unchanged during this examined period.
In terms of burglary, there was a downward trend in the number of incidents over a 10-year period. To be more explicit, in 2003, nearly 3500 people embarked on the career of burglars, this figure continued to rise in the following year, reaching a peak of 3750 people. From 2004 to 2008, the burglary rates experienced a sharp decrease, the lowest data was recorded was only 1200 burglars. This figure tended to remain intact in the last period.
Regarding to other areas of crimes, there was no eminent changes in the information from the chart. At the beginning of the period, the number of cases related to car theft was about 2800 incidents, nearly four times as many as the figure for robbery (approximately 700). Over a decade, the number of car theft and robbers stayed relatively stable, at 2700 and 700 incidents, respectively.
