The table offers information about how unemployed in the UK spend their time in 1982. The data are segmented by time band and gender and shown in relative values.
Overall, there is a remarkable higher share of women that spent their time doing housework; however, spending time in the garden is a predominantly male activity. Entertainment occupations like watching TV or visiting friends are prone to be done in the afternoon. There is a trend of doing a more productive task like looking for a job, doing housework or going shopping in the morning.
The chart shows a clear distribution in the house related activities. Housework is widely done by women, doubling the figures of men in the morning and reaching triple times the time spent by men in the afternoon, with 21% and 7% respectively. On the other hand, gardening is a man predominant task, 14% in both time frames by just 2% in the morning and a 3% in the afternoon spent by its female counterpart.
In both female and male distribution of time expenditure changes along with the time band. There is a tendency in staying in bed in the morning, 8% for both genders, and to watch TV in the afternoon 14% and 12%.
