One noticeable feature in the data is that there was an increase in the number of Japanese, American and Russian pupils applying for a European university, whereas American pupils showed the most dramatic rise being seen in the latter, making it the highest number of international students by the end of the period. In contrast, China experienced a decrease in the number of overseas stundents over the given timeframe.
Looking at the chart in more detail, in 2004, among the four countries, the number of Japanes and Russian students studying at a European university were the lowest partners, with negligible figures of 5000 and 1000 students, respectively. The figure for Japan steadily rose to 10000 students in 2008. In comparison, the number of Russian students learning at European university sharply increased to 8000 students in 2007, after which this figure decreased significantly to 3000 students at the end of the period.
With regard to the remaining countries, in the first year, China had the highest number of students applying to a European university, with 27000 students, compared to the USA, only 20000 students.
