The bar chart illustrates the number of men and women students who researched in different science-related subjects at a university in the UK in 2009.
Overall, male outnumbered women in most subjects while veterinary medicine showed opposite data.
Regarding the field of Physics, male totally outnumbered female since the number of male students was five times as many as that of women. The situation of having a vast gender gap also occurred in the field of astronomy and the field of geology where the number of male research students was respectively two-and- half times and three times as many as that of female research student.
Men and women students were almost equally represented in the field of medicine where the figure for male students was approximate 240 and that of female was about 180. This was also true for biology when the number of men and women students was respectively approximate 250 and 200.
In contrast to five other subjects, there was more female students doing research in the field of veterinary medicine than male students. The number of female studied this subject was about 110 while that of male was almost 90.
