The chart below shows the percentage of the day working adults spent doing different activities in a particular country in 1958 and in 2008. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
The pie charts compare a nation in terms of how inhabitants allocated their time to do distinct activities over a period of 50 years from 1958 to 2008.
It is clear from the chart that residents were prone to spare time for working. Additionally, an increased trend was witnessed in all categories, except the figures for going out, other and commuting to work.
In 1958, the proportion of working accounted for the largest percentage, at 33% of the total, compared to 32% and 19% of time spent on going to offices and hanging out in turn. Conversely, local citizens decided to allocate 8% of their time to unwind at home, whereas the rate of other was dwarfed by that of relaxing, at 6%. By contrast, the equivalent figure for sleeping was 3 times as low as that of other.
To 2008, the percentage of working underwent an insignificant growth to 42% and remained the most common activity that local people prioritised to do. At the same time, those of unwinding at home and going to work matched with a roughly similar trend to 13% and 8% respectively, followed by a slow drop to 25% in the share of sleeping. Likewise, the proportion of going out declined substantially to 6%, at which point it shared a comparable figure with that of other, which remained stable over the research period.
