The bar chart compare twelve countries in terms of the overall number of medals that they have won at the Olympic Games.
It is clear that American is the most successful medal winner. Which is noticeable is that the numbers of gold, silver and bronze medals won by any particular country tend to be quite similar.
The USA has won a total of around 2,300 Olympic medals, including approximately 900 gold, 800 silver and 600 bronze medals. Next comes the Soviet Union, which has nearly 1,000 in total. The UK, France, Germany and Italy also gain more than 500 medals, and their distribution of three kinds of medals are alike with each other.
The figures for Olympic medals won by other six countries are all well below 500. And the Sweden, Australia, Hungary, East Germany and Japan have a similar proportion of each medal color. While there is a exception, China, with a noticeable higher proportion of gold medals (about 45 percent) compared with silver (about 30 percent) and bronze (about 15 percent).
