The charts below give information about USA marriage and divorce rates between 1970 and 2000 an the marital status of adult Americans in two of the years.

The first bar graph compares the number of marriage and divorce rates from 1970 to 2000. The second graph gives information about the marital status of adult citizens of America in 1970 and 2000. Overall, it can be seen that the rate of marriages have decreased in the period of 30 years. Despite some fluctuations over the period as whole, the divorce rate remained the same. Also, the marital status remained the highest in both years amongst all status.

To begin with, in 1970, the number of marriages was more than double the number of divorces(2.5 millions to 1 million). It continued to be the same for marriages in the year 1980 however, the divorce rates increased by .4 millions thus, reaching a peak in the same year. After that, there was a downfall of marriages reaching the trough in 2000 which was 2 millions. Finally the rate of divorce in 2000 remained the same as in 1970.

There was not much of a change witnessed in the marital status of adult Americans over 30 years. The Americans were at the highest (70%) in 1970 which subsequently declined by 11% to 69% in 2000. We experienced that more number of people of America preferred not to get get married or divorced in the year 2000 than in 1970. In the meanwhile, the widowed Americans in 1970 were 8% and remained almost the same even in 2000.

In conclusion, the rate of marriages have fallen gradually and the number of divorces or those who did not marry have increased slowly over the years.
