The two pie charts show that low and high income groups spend their household income on similar items but different proportions.
Overall, while the food and fuel represent the largest proportions in the low income group’s expenditure, the wealthier tend to spend most on miscellaneous and recreation/ cultural activities.
It can be seen from the first chart that food and drink account for the most significant share of their expenditure (29%), which is higher compared to just 15 percent for the high income group in the second chart. The second highest item that low income group spends on is fuel bills (24%), which contrasts with a much lower figure for the wealthier (7%). Regarding to the low income group, miscellaneous and socializing activities hold rather minuscule shares, constituted 18% and 11%, respectively. However, high earners spend more on these items, with 23% and 21%. The high income group also spend a much higher proportion than the lower income group on restaurants and hotels (12% and 4% respectively) and on transportations (16% and 9% respectively). The proportion of expenditure on clothing for two groups, with only 1% difference between the two.
