The pie charts illustrate the proportion of water consumed for three main purposes in six different regions in the world.
Overall, it is clear that the percentage of water used for agriculture in South America, Africa, Central Asia, South East Asia is higher than the figures in the two remaining places. It is also noticeable that Central Asia records the highest water usage in those areas.
In Central Asia and Africa, a vast majority of water is used for agricultural purpose, which consists of more than 80%, while only a trivial percentage is for industrial one, accounting for 5% and 7% respectively,. The opposite is true for North America and Europe, where roughly half of the amount of water is consumed for industrial purpose but agricultural use only makes up approximately one-third of the total. The figures for residential use are fairly the same in both regions, at 13% and 15% each.
In South America and South East Asia, a significant proportion of water is also used for agricultural purpose. Less water is used to cater for industry, which 12% in South East Asia, while South America use the least water used on this purpose.
