The pie charts compare the amount of water used in different sectors in 6 areas: North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Central Asia and South East Asia.
Overall, in North America and Europe, water use for industy accounts for the largest portion. However, argriculture consumes the majority of water in the remaining areas.
In North America and Europe, water for industrial use takes up around 48% and 53% respectively. However, the amount of water consumed in this sector in South American is only 10%. The opposite trend can be seen when we look at the consumption of water in agriculture. While the figure for South American is relatively high, at 71%, this sector in two other areas consume at lower level, at around 39% and 32%. In terms of domestic water usage, the figures are recorded at 13%, 19% and 15% in North American, South America and Europe respectively.
Turning to the remaining areas, the figures of water use in agriculture are very high, at 81%, 84% and 88% in South East Asia, Africa and Central Asia. Of three areas, South East Asia spends the highest level of water consumption in industrial sector, while Africa’s domestic water consumption is highest at 9%.
