Overall, white people makes up the largest proportion of US population. It is also noticeable that the figure for total citizens in the USA fluctuated during the period shown and reached its peak in the last ten years.
In 1966, the US had 200 million of citizens, more than half of which were the white people. Around 22 million American were the black people, while the Hispanic and Asian and pacific Islander population was only 8.5 and 1.5 million respectively. The total America’s population in 2006 was 1.5 times larger, 300 million. The white Americans were still majority, 201 million, while the black population grew to 38.7 million. There were significant rises in the population of the Hispanic and the Asian and Pacific Islander. More than 44 million people in the US were the Hispanic, more than five times the figure in 1966. Meanwhile, the Asian and Pacific Islander population increased nearly ten-fold reaching 14.3 million.
In the first half of the 20th century, the US population grew at different rates, ranging from around 8 million to 20 million per decade. However, it accelerated its growth in the remain period, adding at least 20 million people every ten years. Significantly, the population growth rate in America reached its highest in the last ten years, around 33 million.
