The charts below show the proportion of people’s spending on different commodities and services in a particular European country in 1958 and in 2008.
The charts indicate the proportion of individuals’ expenditures on six daily sectors in a European nation during a 50-year period.
It is clear that people in the country spent an amount of money on Housing, Clothing and Entertainment. Noticeably, the percentage of expenditures on Housing overtook that of Clothing after fifty years.
In 1998, the percentage of citizens’ spending on Clothing was highest, at 32%, followed by Housing, at around 22%. Meanwhile, 18% and 13% of people’s spending were on Entertainment, and Travel or Transport respectively, compared to 7% on Luxury goods. By contrast, people in the European nation did not spend much money on Food, with its figure at only 8%.
In 2008, there was a dramatic increase to 32% in the proportion of people’s expenditures on Housing. Whereas the percentage of individuals’ spending on Luxury goods rose significantly by 10% to 17%, the year of 2008 saw a sharp drop in the figure for Clothing to only 12%. At the same time, the percentage of expenditures on Food went up slightly to 17%. In contrast, there were decreases in the figures for Housing and Entertainment to 6% and 16% respectively.
