The pie charts compare different languages in addition to English spoken by British students at one university in England in the years 2000 and 2010.
Overall, German was the least popular language in both years, while a vast majority of students were able to speak Spanish. The proportion for all languages showed only a minimal change in a decade.
As can be seen from the chart, in both years, the proportion of German speakers remained constant at 10%, making it the lowest among all. However, changes could be seen in other languages, with the population of students who spoke only English and didn’t know any other languages showing a decrease from 20% in 2000 to just only 10% in 2010. Moreover, the percentage of people who were good at French had also declined by 5% over a 10-year period.
By contrast, the rise of the same percentage could be seen in Spanish speakers, from 30% to 35%, making it the most spoken language of all other than English. There were also 5% growths in people who could communicate in another language and those who were proficient in two other languages.
