The charts below show the proportions of the world s oil resources held in different areas together with the proportions consumed annually in the same areas

The bar graphs compare the countries in terms of the proportion of aggregate oil resources they possess and the consumption they make annually.

Overall, while Middle East is the richest country in terms of oil resources outperforming all the nine areas, Asia is largest consumer outstripping all the nine areas in terms of annual consumption. By contrast, Australia and New Zealand both have the lowest proportion of the total world resources and also accounts for the lowest annual consumption.

In terms of world oil resources, Middle East comes top of the list at 56.52 percent, just ahead of canada, which accounts for 14.84 percent. Similarly, Central and South America is the next richest country, with around 8.12 percent of the global oil resources. By contrast, Australia and New Zealand have limited possession of just 0.30%.

In terms of global annual consumption, Asia's demand outstrips United States, with an annual consumption of just over a quarter. While Asia possesses minimal 2.89% of oil resources in the world, it is world's largest consumer. United States is the second largest consumer at 25.48 percent. Africa's consumption stood at 3.35 percent, which is nearly twice as little as its possession of resources in the world. Australia and New Zealand have the lowest consumption of paltry 1.31% which is slightly above the proportion of oil resources it holds.
