The diagram illustrates how plastic bottles go through different processes for recycling.

Overall, recycling plastic bottles is a loop. When a bottle thrown away by a consumer arrives at a recycling center, it undergoes six stages, beginning with the sorting step and ending with producing raw material, which is then used to manufacture products for end users.

At a closer look, plastic bottles in a trash can are carried to the recycling centre by trucks, where they are sorted as the very first step. Next, the sorted bottles are put into blocks for the second step, which contains crushing them into pieces. After that, they are washed to get rid of impurities.

In the fourth stage, those washed plastic pieces are put into a special machine that can transform them into plastic pellets. Subsequently, those pellets are heated to obtain raw material, and finally, using those materials, end products, such as clothes, bags, pencils and plastic containers are produced.
