The process diagram given represents different steps that are involved in making of potato chips. It gives us an overview of every step, right from checking potato quality to packing of wafers.
The first step involves manual inspection of potatoes and selecting the ones that pass all of the quality checks. The selected ones are washed and rinsed with cold water and then are passed to the Peeler. It helps in removal of starch which is beneficial for further processing as natural sweetness is removed. The peeled potatoes are then transferred to the slicer with the help of a bucket conveyor. The slicer cuts these potatoes into thin slices and passes them to a deep fryer using a flat belt conveyor.
These slices are then fried until they are crisp and passed onto a flat belt conveyor. During this step, the chips are salted using a salter until the desired flavour is obtained. The chips are then passed to a bag packer for packaging. Packing of chips is done in bag packing as well as can filling. Can filling is done using a bulk can filler.
Overall, we can clearly see that there are a number of steps involved in the making of potato chips.
