The diagram shows how alcohol is distilled through a set of apparatus
The process diagram beneath provides information about the way in which alcohol is distilled using distinct apparatus.
Overall, the process consists of seven stages, beginning with the solution of water and alcohol and ends with the collection of condensed alcohol
First of all, the solution of water and alcohol is transferred into a distillation flask and then it is placed on a tripod under a Bunsen burner. After that, the heat produced by the Bunsen burner starts boiling the solution. Following this, vapours of alcohol starts to form under a set temperature as recorded by a thermometer which is placed on the top of the flask. A stopper is also placed in order to prevent the vapours to escape out of the flask.
In the next stage, the vapours of the solution are passed through the condenser tube. Subsequently, cool water is supplied on the walls of the tube. Finally, the condensed alcohol is collected into a beaker.
