Employment rates

Essay topics:

Employment rates

The line graph illustrates the differences between rates of job in three areas in the UK from 2000 to 2010, measured in millions.

Overall during the span of 10 years, the employment rate of the public sector and self-employed rose, whereas when talking about the private sector the number dropped rapidly year on year until it reached the bottom during the end of the time period.

Beginning with public sector jobs, it started at 38 million in the year 2000, and it remained steady for the next two years. On the other hand, the private sector started the journey at 49 million, but it dropped to just above 40 in 2002. However, the public sector overtakes private-sector jobs during the year 2003 and continues to rise until it reaches just under 50 in 2005. During the next five years, the public sector fluctuates and reaches the peak just above 50 during the year 2010. As far as the private sector is concerned it continues following a downward trend reaching 20 million in 2010.

Meanwhile, in the year 2000, the self-employed rates were recorded at the lowest at the time, but it showed a sudden upward trend in the year 2005. During the next four years, the number started growing until it reached its highest point 30 million in 2009, and remained constant the next year.
