The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The pie charts illustrate the proportion of the household energy use and the proportion of greenhouse gas emissions from various types of energy use in an average household in Australia. Units are measured in percent.
Overall, while the largest amount of energy use is for heating, water heating emission is the biggest portion of greenhouse gas emissions among those of 6 Australian household appliances. In contrast, cooling appliance both consumes least energy and emits least greenhouse gas to environment.
With regard to the percentage of energy use for heating, it is accounted for 42% of total energy used in the typically Australian household, following by 30% and 15% of water heating and other devices respectively. Nevertheless, unlike water heating, which produces one-third of the greenhouse gas emission, and other appliance, which produces 28% of that emission, heating creates greenhouse gas emission only 15% of the total amount.
On the other hand, the least percentage of energy used is for cooling and lighting, which uses only 2% and 3% of the total consumption respectively. Moreover, those two types of household generate relatively small proportion of the gas that cause environment problems: they create 11% of the whole emission.
