The first pie chart illustrates the use of energy in an average family in Australia, and the second one compares the percentage of greenhouse gas emitted by this energy consumption.
It is noticeable from the charts that the energy utilised for heating makes up the largest proportion. Addtionally, water heating results in most of geenhouse gas emissions.
In terms of Australian household energy consumption, the rate of energy used for heating is highest, at 42% of total energy use, while the figure for water heating is slightly lower, at 30%. By contrast, only 2% and 4% of energy are consumed for cooling and lighting respectively.
When it comes to Australian household greenhouse gas emissions, 32% of total greenhouse gas is sent out by water heating, whereas gas emissions resulting from cooling account for the smallest proportion, at only 3%. Other appliances are responsible for emitting 28 % of greenhouse gas. At the same time, the figure for lighting is sharply lower, at 8% of greenhouse gas.
