The following bar chart shows the different modes of transport used to travel to and from work in one European city in 1960, 1980 and 2000
The bar graph compares the proportions of four means of transportation used for travel and work in a European city in 1960, 1980, and 2000.
Overall, the percentage of bus and car users increased steadily during the 40-year period, in comparison to the decrease of people commuting by bike or on foot.
In 1960, approximately 20% of people traveled by bus. The trend was seen to reach its highest point (roughly 27%) before falling to almost 17% by the end of the period. Also, car users made up about 7% in total in 1960. After 10 years, its proportion rose drastically (almost 25%), before peaking at roughly 38% by 2000.
At the beginning of the period depicted, more than 25% of people traveled and went to work by bike, followed by the percentage of people who went on foot (nearly 37%), respectively. The growth of bike users was seen to decline gradually before reaching its lowest point at nearly 7% by 2000. The number of people who went on foot also decreased after 10 years, and then it was recorded at almost 10% by 2000, correspondingly.
