The graphs show how long did the immigrants intend to stay in the UK as well as why they moved to this country in the period of 2000 and 2008.
Overall, while the number of people deciding to live in the UK from two to four years and up to two years witnessed an uptick, the 4-or-more-year group remained unchanged. Working, additionally, was the main reasons behind this immigration.
The number of immigrants staying in the UK in more than 4 years leveled off, at 150 thousand. The similar trend occurred in the up-to-2-year group in the two first years but then it started to surge up and peak at 250 thousand, which cementing its position as the most suitable duration for the immigrants. Conversely, from 2000 to 2006, the figure for the two-to-four-year counterpart fluctuated around just over 50 thousand and later modestly increased to more than a hundred.
In 2008, working is the most common factor for the UK immigration which accounted for nearly 40%. A third of people moved to the UK in 2008 for studying, double that for accompanying or joining family purpose. The percentage of people moving to this region without any stated reason and other purposes were the same, at 7% each.
