The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030.
The graph illustrates the consumption of energy by fuel in America since 1980 and predictions towards 2030.
Overall, petrol and oil and coal showed a steady but significant rise throughout the period. Despite fluctuations, natural gas, nuclear and solar and wind energy consumptions experienced a gradually increase, whereas hydropower showed a downward trend.
In 1980, the consumption of petrol and oil were started at 35q and had some fluctuations and it fluctuated during the twenty-year period and predicted it will hit the highest point about 50q in 2030. Meanwhile, coal and natural gas initially were at 15q and 20q, respectively. However, coal increased sharply and exceeding the natural gas’ rate in 2015 and a steady increase is forecasted in these two kinds of energy to around 25q in 2030.
The consumption of nuclear and solar or wind have a similar pattern trend in the USA. Both started at about 4q and a moderate increased is predicted to about 7q in the year 2030. In the meantime, hydropower energy experienced some fluctuations from 4q in 1980 and hit a low to almost 2q in 2015 and will remain steady to 2030.
