The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030.

The graph provides data on the quantity of spent energy from different sources in the USA from 1980 onwards as well as predictions of energy spending up to 2030. At first glance, by 2030 in the USA, there will be an upward trend in consumption of energy from all fuel sources, except for hydropower which will stay rather unchanged.

Petrol as the main source of energy is expected to increase from 35 Quadrillion units in 1980 to 50 Quadrillion units in 2030. Natural gas and coal as the second and third most consumed sources of energy with 20 and around 16 Quadrillion units in 1980 are predicted to exchange their positions and rise to respectively about 24 and approximately 30 Quadrillion units in 2030.

Nuclear and Solar/Wind sources at roughly 4 Quadrillion units in 1980 are expected to witness only a small increase to about 8 and approximately 6 Quadrillion units to hold the position of fourth and fifth most consumed sources in 2030. Finally, Hydropower at only 4 Quadrillion units in 1980, is expected to see a slight decrease to reach nearly 3 Quadrillion units to be known as the least used source of energy in the USA in 2030
