The line chart illustrates the proportion of household car owned by the British between 1971 and 2007.
It is apparent that one and two or more cars ownership witnessed an upward trend while the opposite was true for no car ownership. Another striking point is that the highest figured registered by the British one car's holding among the three categories.
In the first year, the percentage of British one car owner started at 35% and reached a peak of 55% in 2005 after facing a slightly decrease in the year 2000. By contrast, the British ownership of no car accounted for over 50% in the beginning of the period then considerably drop to 35% in the year 2005. Regarding two or more cars property of the British, there was a fluctuation around 10% from 1990 to 2005 before rising in the rate of two or more cars ownership to roughly 30% for the next 10 years. Following this, remaining stable until 2020, the figure began to increase sharply by approximately 20% at the end of the period.
Meanwhile, from 2005 to 2015, the ownership for one car and no car declined nearly by to 40% in 2010 and 30% in 2015 respectively. After that, a fluctuation was recorded in the percentage of British one car ownership around 40% while no car ownership continued to remain unchanged at 30% for about 10 years, this was followed by the fall to 15% in the last year.
