The provided line graph illustrates the propotion of population in four Asian nations: the Philipines, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia. This data spanS from 1970 until 2020 AND includes the predictive figures up to 2040.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that there are projected increase in the population in living in cities of all countries examined, with Malaysia dominating the chart for the vast majority of the period, and the Philippines are IS predicted to overtake the Thailand and Indonesia to hold the second position in the half of the timeline.
Starting with Malaysia , its urban populace experienced a significant surge in 1970, and forecasts predict that this trend will persist, potentially exceeding 80% of the country’s total population in 2040, higher than any other countries listed. Similarly, Indonesia almost exactly mirrors this upward trend, albeit at a much lower rate. Despite starting at the lowest point, nearly 15%, Indonesia’s urban population rate rose considerably, surpassing Thailand and Philippines to become the second highest before reaching just above 60% in the final year.
Moving on to Thailand’s urban population growth, although consistant, was not pronounced as that Malaysia and Indonesia. It is predicted to reach about 50% of the total population in 2040. Turning to the Philippnines, this country present a interesting case. Initial stability in urban population figures was followed by an abrupt ascent . Although a decline has been observed post-1980, the predictions are optimistic. projecting that approximately half of the population will reside in urban areas in 2040.
