The graph below shows average carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007.

The line graph illustrates per capita emissions of carbon dioxide of the four countries namely United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal. Generally speaking, the United Kingdom and Sweden experienced the decreases while Italy and Portugal had the increases of carbon dioxide emissions per person during the time period of 1967-2007.
United Kingdom had the highest per person emissions of CO2; however, it had been gradually reducing from 10.8 metric tons down to 8.8 tons over 40 years. The second large amount of CO2 released by one person belong to Sweden at nearly 9 metrics tons in 1967, then reached its peak of over 10 metric tons in after ten years, and finally became rapidly fell to less than 6 metrics tons in 2007.
In contrast, Italy and Portugal had the same trend which began the low emissions at the beginning, then the amount of CO2 per person had been rising steadily. Italy had almost a double rise met Sweden’s emissions at 7 metric tons in 1987, then passed Sweden to be the second highest emissions at the end. Portugal had an extremely little amount of emissions which was 1 metric tons per person in 1967. However, the country eventually had the same amount of CO2 emissions per capita of Sweden which was 5.8 metric tons.
