The line graph illustrates the average of CO2 emissions per person of 4 difference Western countries from 1967 to 2007.
Overall, it is clear that the amount of CO2 emissions in metric tonnes of Italy and Portugal increased over the period, while CO2 emitted from other countries fell.
In 1967, the average of CO2 emissions of Portugal was only below 2 metric tonnes. In the following decades, it increased gradually, which rose to over 5 metric tonnes in 1997 and increased slightly in 10-year later although it was still less than 6 metric tonnes. CO2 was produced from Italy also increased, from over 4 metric tonnes in 1967 to almost 8 metric tonnes by the 1997, then this figure was remained steady this amount to 2007, and always higher than that of Portugal 2 metric tonnes approximately 2 metric tonnes. Although, the average of CO2 of Portugal decreased, this is the country emitted the highest CO2 on average over the period.
The figure for Sweden was over 8 metric tonnes in 1967s and then reached its highest peak over 40-year period, over 10 metric tonnes. By contrast, this fell sharply to equivalent the amount of CO2 of Portugal produced, less than 6 metric tonnes. United Kingdom is the highest country that emitted CO2, over 10 metric tonnes. However, there was a gradual decline in the average CO2 emissions to below 9 metric tonnes.
