The chart gives information about how much carbon dioxide was emitted per person (on average) in four countries (United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal) during forty years (1967-2007).
We can see that CO2 emissions per person in Italy and Portugal increased dramatically over the entire time. Looking at Italy, which sent out more CO2 than Portugal, the rate CO2 emissions per person climbed markedly from well above 4 (metric tonnes) to just beneath 8 (m.t). This trend reflected in CO2 gas in Portugal, with the lowest amount in all nations in 1967 (1 m.t) and reaching its peak at roughly 5 (m.t) at the end of the period.
However, turning to U.K. and Sweden, we see that this pattern was roughly reversed. United Kingdom, with the highest average CO2 emissions between these countries, had emitted 11 (m.t) in 1967 and went down slowly to approximately 9 (m.t). The average emissions of this gas in Sweden were a noticeable exception, as it had a marked rise and fall, peaking at just over 10 (m.t) in 1977, dropping by about half (similar to Portugal CO2 emissions) in 2007.
Overall, it is apparent that although the U.K. and Portugal had a reversed pattern, they sent out the highest and lowest amount of CO2 among four nations over the period in question.
