The line graph depicts the average carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per person in the four countries between 1967 and 2007. Overall, it can be seen that the United Kingdom experienced the highest levels of carbon dioxide emissions in the year 1967, but it dropped gradually during the four decades; while Portugal had the lowest rates of carbon dioxide emissions in 1967. In addition, it should also be noted that both Italy and Portugal experienced the steadily increasing trends during the forty years’ period. In contrast, Sweden experienced a significantly increasing trend before the year of 1977, but it dropped hugely from 1977 to 2007.
With regards to the highest and lowest emission rates, it can be observed that United Kingdom began at roughly 10.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission rates in 1967, which was also the largest number compared to other three countries but it dropped to approximately 9 tonnes in 2007; while Portugal initially had the lowest emissions rates at about 1.8 tonnes, but it increased significantly and gradually to roughly 5.5 tonnes in 2007.
On the other hand, it is noticeable that Sweden experienced a considerably growing trend from roughly 8.5 to 10.5 tonnes between 1967 and 1977, which was also at its peak in 1977, but it decreased significantly and gradually after its peak to about 5 tonnes of emissions rates in the year 2007; while Italy had the gradually increasing trend, which started at approximately 4.2 to roughly 8 tonnes of emission rates during the forty years’ period.
