The graph illustrates the trends in food and oil prices in the global context between 2000 and 2011.
Apparently, both categories have an upward trend during 11 years. Regarding the food price, the initial years (from 2000 to 2008) showed a gradual rising figure with its peak at 220 index points in 2008. It was followed by a sharp decline in 2009 that scored 140 index points. However, steady growth was witnessed throughout the following year and reached its peak at 240 at the end of the period in 2011. Similarly, the graph showed a plateau of increasing figures, arriving at its peak in 2008, the same as the food price, at around $120. Both experienced a sharp dip in 2009 but in the case of oil, it has only around $100 in 2011, the end of the graph.
To sum up, both trends experienced a gradual growth from 2000 to 2008, followed by a dramatic decline in 2008-2009 and steadily increased till the end of the years.
