The graph illustrates fluctuations in global rates of food and oil between years 2000 and 2011.

Overall, it is evident that both recorded a rise in their prices until 2008. In 2000, the price of food was between 80 to 100 points while the average price of oil was above 20 dollars and the undulation continued until 2003 in between these prices. After 2003, the rates of both items recorded a steady rise, nevertheless various variations were observed, the price of oil reached its peak above 120 dollars and even food prices observed a noteworthy increase around 220 points between 2008 and 2009

However, a steady decline was observed in figures between 2008-09 and the prices plummeted down to 140 in 2009 for food and below 40 dollars for oil. Still, the rates began to soar again, though there were certain fluctuations. Prices for both commodity again recorded a mere downfall a year after in 2010 but the prices increased gradually. 2011 recorded the highest price index for food (around 240 points) while the oil prices rose above 100 dollars.

In conclusion, though both the commodities recorded variations in prices over the period of 11 years, the food index recovered from downfall and attained its highest rate while oil wasn't able to gain its peak again.
