The line graph illustrates how much different spreads were consumed between 1981 and 2007.
Overall, there was a significant decrease in the amount of consumed butter and margarine, while low-fat and reduced spreads experienced a considerable increase. In addition, low fat and reduced spreads became the most significant figure in the latter half of the period.
The amount of butter used by customers started at just over 140 grams in 1981, after which it saw a dramatic decline to precisely 100 grams in 1991. By contrast, the figure for margarine observed a drop to 80 grams in 1986, with a subsequent increase to exactly 100 grams in 1991.
Roughly 10 grams of low fat and reduced spreads were consumed in 1996, followed by the most remarkable rise to above 80 grams in 2001 and became the most consumed spreads in 2007 with around 75 grams. Opposite changes can be seen in the figure for butter and margarine, which decreased to about 50 grams and exactly 40 grams, respectively.
