Essay topics:

The graph below shows electricity production (in terawatt hours) in France between 1980 and 2012. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparison where relevant.

A glance at the graph compares the amount of electricity produced by four different power sources in France from 1980 to 2012.

Overview, it is evident that nuclear power was by far the most important energy source in France. In comparison, renewables remained the less productive energy over the same period.

Being the main supplier of power in 1980, the thermal power stations produced in the vinicity of 120 TW-h of electricity. Meanwhile, the hydroelectric and nuclear power were generated at the same amount of energy which was approximately 70 TW-h. In contrast, renewables contributed only a trivial amount to the national grid. One year later, there was a switch to nuclear power as the primary source of electricity.

Between 1982 and 2005, there was a drammatical rise in the amount of energy produced by nuclear power which reached its peak of 430 TW-h. Conversely, the figure of thermal power fell to only 50 TW-h in 1985 and remained at this level for the rest of the period. Hydroelectric power stations maintained its power generation which was average 70 TW-h per year but renewable electricity production saw only an marginal rise to approximately 25 TW-h by 2012.
