Essay topics:

The graph below shows the number of passenger railway journeys made in Great Britain between 1950 and 2004/5.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

The line graph compares statistic for rail journeys usage by passengers in Great Britain in using 3 different types of railway system over a period of 55 years, from 1950 to 2005.
It is clear that the trends for all means were very similar; however, Light rail & metro systems were the least popular. While the number of commuters using London Underground and National rail network rose considerably, there was a slight growth of light rail and metro system.
In 1950, there were 1000 million people used National rail network and 700 million use London underground. After that, light rail and metro system started operating in 1963 with approximately 30 million users. Then in 1980, most of the passengers didn't use light rail and metro system. By 10982, number of people used national network and London underground dropped significantly to nearly 600 million and 500 million respectively.
From 1982 to 1985, the number of people commuted by all 3 kinds of railway experiences a moderate recovery, with both national rail network and London underground achieved roughly 800 million passengers and Light rail & metro system got about 70 million passengers. However, between 1985 and 1995, the number of people who used National rail network and London Underground fell by 50 million, whereas Light rail & metro system remain stably at 70 million passengers. Finally, in 2004/5, all means of railway increased once again, at 900 million, 1070 million and 170 million respectively
