The line graph illustrates the percentage of the elderly people in Japan,Sweden and the USA over a period of 100 years(1940-2040).

Overall, the percentage of old people has increased steadily for USA and Sweden, although Japan experienced a gradual decrease, it then saw a sudden rise in the last 15 years of the period.USA and Sweden had the highest proportion of the elderly even though they witnessed some fluctuations during the 100 years.

To begin with, USA and Sweden started off with about 9% and 7% respectively of the elderly in 1940 and they all experienced a gradual rise although with some fluctuations. In 1989, Sweden overtook USA and had about 20% of the aged population which saw them remaining higher than USA during the entire period.

On the other hand, Japan had the lowest proportion of elderly initially ,starting off with 5% and it declined gradually for a period of 85 years after which it saw a sudden rise in the year 1989.In this period it rose from having 10% of the old people to end the period with 28% in 1940.
