The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries

The line graph gives information about the percentage of people aged 65 or more in the us , sweden and japan from 1940 to 2040.

Overall, it is clear that the proportion of older people in each country increased and are expected to rise until end of period.

In the beginning of period, the percentage of old people living in the us stood around 10% and this proportion for sweden and japan were about 7% and 5% respectively. While the percentage of elderly people in the USA and sweden rose gradually to approximately 15% and 13% in 1980 , A steady drop was seen in the percentage of Japanese old people to about 2.5%, before rising to initial figure.

Despite some fluctuation in the figure for the us and sweden , the percentage of elderly people in all countries are expected rise and reach about 25% in end of the period by 2040.
