In general, the number of men smoking was always higher than the number of women who smoked in the timescale of 40 years. Moreover, the rates of male smokers show a gradual downward trend, whereas the rate of female smokers in this period
In 1960, the rate of male smokers is 600. This was far higher than the rates of female smokers, which were just under 100. However, it then declined gradually throughout 1960 and 200 years and finished at around 250.
In contrast, apart from a steadiness at just under 200 between 1965 and 1970, the number of women who smoked grew significantly until it reached its peak at just above 300 in the period of 1975 and 1980. Then the rates of female smokers witnessed a gradual decrease, which finished at 20 in 2000.
