The line graph indicates the transition in prices for four different categories from 1978 to 2009 and the overall trend Consumer-price index throughout 30 years.
Overall, although the four groups were similar in terms of a general increase, the price shifts in the USA in most years was higher than the others.
All the lines on the graph have the same starting figure, approximately 60% in 1979. Over the next two years, there was a slight growth in the tendency of Sugar and sweets which peaked at 100 in 1981 while the price of Carbonated drinks remained stable. Although experienced the minor fluctuation, their number rose constantly below the figure of CPI. In 2000, the price of Sugar and sweets surged to almost 200 whereas the figure for Carbonated drinks around 150, which lower than the CPI was more than 200.
On the other hand, in spite of decreasing in 1983, the value of fresh fruits and vegetable provided an upward trend afterwards that peaked at 300 at the end of the period.
