The line graph illustrates the acid rain gases resulting from four different sectors from 1990 to 2007 in the United Kingdom. Overall, there was a decrease in the amount of acid rain emissions over the period in all sectors shown apart from transport and communication, where it remained fairly constant. In addition, the most dramatic fall was found in the sector of electricity, gas and water supply.
In 1991, around 3.3 million tonnes of acid rain gases were discharged from gas, electricity and water supplies. Just above 2 million tonnes of acid rain gases resulted from other industries. Transport and communication was responsible for approximately 0.7 million tonnes of emissions, while the domestic sector produced about 0.6 million tonnes.
There was a dramatic decline in the amount of acid rain emissions coming from gas, electricity and water supplies, which fell to just 0.5 million tonnes in 2007. Emissions from domestic and other industries sectors also dropped gradually, reaching about 0.2 and 1.2 million tonnes respectively at the end of the period. In contrast, the transport sector saw a small increase in acid rain emissions, reaching a peak of 1 million tonnes in 2005 then falling to 0.6 million tonnes in 2007.
