The provided line chart gives information about the spending on books in four countries which are Germany, Italy, France, and Australia in the period from 1995 to 2005.
From an overall perspective, it is clear that the expenditure on books grew differently in each country but Germany stayed highest for the entire surveyed decade.
In 1995, Germany’s budget for books was significantly higher than the other three counterparts, with 80 million US dollars. Whereas, France and Italy spent nearly the same amount on books, reaching 55 million US dollars and 50 million US dollars respectively. Australia was the lowest spender for books with 30 million US dollars.
From 1995 to 2005, the highest figure which was Germany, underwent a short-term decrease, dropping to 85 million in 2003 before reaching 95 million at the end of the period. French spending on books rose by 20 million in a decade and ranged for the second highest country in the whole period. It was not until 2001 did the data for Australia soared, exceeding Italy in 2003 to become the third-highest figure in 2005.
