The line graph compares the thousands of marriages and divorces in the United Kingdom from 1975 to 2000. Overall, it is clear that there was an increase in the total number of marriages, while the number of the divorce experienced a decrease.
In 1975, the total number of marriages was 500 thousand in which the figures for first and second marriages were around 350,000 and 150,000. The lowest number was the divorce rate, at 110 000. In 1985, total marriage number reached a peak at 610 00, while first marriage figure was steadily climbed up to 400 000. The second marriages and divorce number were slightly rose to 210 and 200, respectively, over a 10-year period.
From 1985 to 2000, a slow decline was seen in the figures for total marriages and first marriages. By contrast, the number of people married a second time and divorce went slowly up to approximately 210 000.
