IELTS Writing Task 1 - Example 9
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
The chart shows British Emigration to selected destinations between 2004 and 2007.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
The bar chart illustrates the total number of British people who emigrated to five different countries over the period 2004 to 2007. Overall what stands out from the chart is that Australia was the most popular destination throughout the time frame mentioned in the question.
With regards to Australia, although the numbers of visitors stood at just over 40,000 in 2004, the figure went up sharply to 52,000 in 2006, followed by a rapid drop to finish around 42,000 in 2007. Now, looking to Spain, having remained almost stable at 35,000 for the first two years, the figure declined to about 28,000 at the end of the period, which was still considerably higher than New Zealand, the USA and France. While New Zealand witnessed a gradual fall over the whole period to end at 20,000 in 2007, the USA experienced fluctuations around 20,000.
Turning to France, in 2004, the net number of British guests constituted almost 22,000. However, the rate increased significantly to nearly 35,000. Next, the country saw a rapid fall to just under 20,000 in 2007, making it the least number as opposed to remaining four countries.
