Looking from the overall perspective, it is readily apparent that despite a similar trend, the visits by UK residents led the overseas resident visits and grew tremendously over time. Also, Spain and France remained the top choices among all the tourist destinations.
According to the given illustration, 2 million more UK residents went abroad as against 10 million foreign visitors to the UK in 1979. the number rose steadily to 20 million and 12 million respectively in 5 years. After that, between 1984 and 1989, the former climbed higher by 10 million than the latter. In the last decade, visits from the UK skyrocketed to more than 50 million, higher by almost one-quarter than visits to the UK.
On the other hand, during the last year, more than 10 million UK residents chose France as a visitor destination. Followed next by Spain with 9 million visitors. However, the USA, Greece, and Turkey were visited by nearly 4, 3,2 million people respectively.
